How to: Configure your external video viewer to automatically start

Last modified: Wednesday October 19, 2022.

You can configure your Microsoft Windows device to automatically start up your chosen External viewer so that each time the device is started, the view is displayed.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have already configured the External viewer you want to display, and have created a shortcut to that camera view on this device. See How to: Create an external video viewer and How to: Create a shortcut to your External viewers.

Task — Add the shortcut to the startup folder

This task assumes that the monitoring device is using the Microsoft Windows operating system.

To configure auto-startup for all users:

  1. Open the Run dialog (Windows Key + R).
  2. Type shell:common startup.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Drag the shortcut created in How to: Create a shortcut to your External viewers into the Startup folder.
  5. Restart the device.
  6. When prompted, enter the one-time password (OTP) that corresponds to the external view you created for this device.

You need to create one external viewer in Aware for each external device. If you want to have multiple screens displaying the same view, then a separate Aware external viewer with a unique OTP must be created for each display.

  7. The next time this device is restarted, your chosen browser and the Aware camera view is shown.

To configure auto-startup for just the current user:

  2. Type shell:startup.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Drag the shortcut created in How to: Create a shortcut to your External viewers into the Startup folder.
  5. Restart the device as the current user.
  6. When prompted, enter the one-time password that corresponds to the external view you created for this device.
