How to: Create an external video viewer

Last modified: Monday September 04, 2023.

Often, it is useful to provide a monitor that shows visitors to your premises that they are being recorded on a security system.

This is achieved in Alta Aware® by creating a link to the required external view, and then pointing the monitoring system to the URL and the one-time password (OTP) created by Aware.

You need to create one external viewer in Aware for each external device accessing the view. If you want to have multiple screens displaying the same view, then a separate Aware external viewer with a unique one-time password must be created for each display.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have already configured the view you want to display and that the view has been shared with All users. See How to: Create your Video views

Task — Create External view

  1. Choose Tools Tools > Users tool Users.
  2. Click External access.
  3. Select External viewers.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Add role button Add viewer.
  6. Select the saved view to use in the External viewer.
  7. Select the Information layers to be displayed in the external view.
  8. Optionally, enter any descriptive information, for example, a summery of the camera views, or the entry door name where this external view will be used.
  9. Copy the External URL needed to access external views from your Aware deployment.

Use this information to create a shortcut that can be added to each device used to display the camera views.

  10. Copy the One-time password needed to specify which of your External views is to be displayed.

The one-time password (OTP) must be entered in the browser on the external device the first time you configure it to show your chosen camera view. This OTP is only used the first time the external device connects and is not necessary on subsequent connections. Once used, it cannot be used on another system, and a new OTP must be generated which will invalidate the existing connection.

  11. Click Add.
  12. Click Done.
