How to: Define privacy areas for Ava cameras

Last modified: Thursday September 29, 2022.

Due to privacy concerns, you might need to make sure that not only do specified areas within the field of view of a camera not have any analytics running, but that they also do not show or record any video from these areas.

Privacy masks can only be applied to Avigilon Ava cameras.

Once configured on the view of an Avigilon Ava camera, the areas defined by privacy masks apply to Video view and Map view. They also apply to rules and searches, as areas that have privacy masks cannot be searched, or have rules run against them.

See How to: Define areas without analytics for information about defining analytics masks for any camera.

Task — Define the areas to be masked

  1. Choose Tools Open a tool > Devices Devices.
  2. Select the camera of interest.

Use the Search for devices search to find the camera in large lists of devices.

  3. Click Edit settings.
  4. Click Privacy area configuration.
  5. Click and drag the mask over the area of the field of view to be excluded from view, recordings, and analytics.

You can create more complex excluded areas by using several overlapping masks.

  6. When you have masked the areas to be excluded, click Done.

When you have applied a privacy mask, no video is shown or recorded from the masked area, and analytics, including searching and rules will not apply to the masked areas.
