How to: Define areas without analytics

Last modified: Thursday September 29, 2022.

Due to privacy concerns, you might need to make sure that specified areas within the field of view of a camera does not have any analytics running. Create analytics masks to exclude areas from the Avigilon Alta analytics.

Device analytics masking can be applied to any camera connected to Aware.

Once configured, these defined areas without analytics apply to Video view and Map view. Setting a masked area on the view of a camera also impacts rules and searches, as areas that have analytics masked off cannot be searched, or have rules run against them.

See How to: Define privacy areas for Ava cameras for information about defining privacy masks for Avigilon Ava cameras.

Task — Define the areas to be masked

  1. Choose Tools Open a tool > Devices Devices.
  2. Select the camera of interest.

Use the Search for devices button search to find the camera in large lists of devices.

  3. From Settings, click Edit settings.
  4. Click Analytics configuration.
  5. Click and drag the mask over the area of the field of view to be excluded from analytics.

You can create more complex excluded areas by using several overlapping masks.

  6. When you have masked the areas to be excluded, click Apply.

Data from the Avigilon Alta analytics is used for searching, in rules, in the Map view tool to provide people and vehicle dots and paths, and in the Video view tool for people and vehicle counts, bounding boxes and other features. These features do not work in any areas that you have masked.

  7. Click Done.
