About: Alta Cloud Connector High resilience mode

Last modified: Tuesday May 21, 2024.

Multiple Alta Cloud Connectors can be configured into server groups to increase the number of devices that can be connected to Alta Aware. However, with a server group of Cloud Connectors, if one Cloud Connector fails, there is no resiliency, resulting in all devices connected to the impacted Cloud Connector going offline. The situation where it is the primary Cloud Connector of the Cloud Connector group that goes offline has a bigger impact, as without connection to the primary, none of the secondary Cloud Connectors within the server group can communicate with Alta Aware.

To prevent this issue, Cloud Connectors can be configured in High resilience mode. In High resilience mode, in the event of one Cloud Connector going offline, the remaining Cloud Connectors rebalance, and share the devices between themselves, meaning that the connected devices will only be offline for a few minutes during the rebalancing. In the event of the primary Cloud Connector going offline, one of the secondary Cloud Connectors within the High resilience group is automatically promoted to primary, ensuring that communications to Alta Aware are maintained.

To create a High resilience server group, you need at least three Cloud Connectors.
