How to: Create a snapshot from the video stream

Last modified: Thursday October 15, 2020.

There may be occasions where capturing a snapshot from a video feed might be useful. For example, after capturing a snapshot of a person or vehicle of interest, you can share that image with other people via email, or other messaging system.

You might also want to capture a snapshot of the view when setting up a camera, for reference in the event of needing to replace the camera at a later date.

Snapshots can be captured from live and playback feeds in Video view, and from the Devices side panel.

Snapshots are captured using the Portable Network Graphics (.png) format.

Task — Capture a snapshot

  1. Open your preferred tool (Video view or Devices).
  2. Using the options available for your selected tool, (Live or Playback, and the Pause and Play options for Video view, or opening the side panel in Devices), locate the image to snapshot.
  3. Right-click on the image and select Snapshot.
The snapshot image is downloaded to your computers default download location.
The filename is in the format snapshot_<camera name>_<time> <date>.png, for example, snapshot_Main Entrance 1_12_30_45 12_10_2020.png
